How does this rum taste?
Community loves the velvety coffee‑chocolate profile, balance and integrated alcohol. Critics mention moderate complexity, shorter finish and some medicinal/glue tones. Consensus: a highly praised, super-sippable old Demerara.
If you enjoy classic aged Demeraras like El Dorado Rare Casks but want a drier, coffee-heavier cask strength that stays very drinkable, this hits that sweet spot without additives.
Beginners expecting a light, simple 40% rum, or seekers of ultra-funky or hyper-complex, long-finishing sippers; also not for those who dislike roasted bitterness or medicinal/licorice hints.

Seems more mature than the 2 years younger SWR 2001 from SBS with stronger wood notes. The dried fruit with apricot remains present in the taste but as with the younger. The nose is very inviting, besides oak a smell of cappuccino spilled over its already somewhat aged leather wallet. The alcohol is excellently integrated and the creamy texture goes well with the full flavor experience.
A lively, deep nose of coffee, licorice, old wood and a fresh, mentholated side. Velvety smooth on the palate, with an explosion of aromas! Dark but complex aromas, always balanced by vegetal, minty and licorice notes. The finish is long, with all the aromas lingering on the palate. Another medieval rum that tells a story of fortified castles, wooden bridges and deep cellars.
Very well balanced and elegant showing here. Some of the other bottlings show a little more punch and intensity, while this is just very pleasing to sip.
