“Voilà un profil qui change et qui montre ce dont cette petite maison est capable. Ce XO sort du terroir agricole et végétal pour proposer quelque chose de plus typique de sa distillerie (ici Saint James) avec des notes plus épicées sur la cannelle et la réglisse, plus gourmande sur le café et le cacao, une douceur fruitée et des arômes de noix et de toast. Un nez vif et concentré. L’attaque en bouche repose sur un socle similaire : on retrouve ce côté boisé, les épices douces, les notes grillées et torréfiés sur l’amande et un côté fruité qui adoucit l’ensemble. Les tannins viennent assécher le palais et y apporter une légère astringence. La texture, un peu sirupeuse, confirme le caractère à la fois souple, élégant et gourmand de ce XO. La finale, de longueur tout à fait correcte, combine l’exotisme des fruits aux notes empyreumatiques et sombres, pour un profil sec mais d’une belle rondeur et qui laisse une jolie dernière impression en bouche. Un rhum au-dessus du reste de la gamme, accessible à un prix très abordable pour un XO. À tester pour tout amateur de rhum agricole.”

“Degusté à l’aveugle, le nez est fermé mis à part la réglisse très présente. Même après repos, ce rhum reste définitivement fermé mis à part un boisé épicé. En bouche, c’est doux mais sans marqueur fruité défini. Poivre et boisé sont perceptibles, avec une note de grillé. La bouche est courte.”
