Intense, spicy and creamy. The finish adds a nice floral note. Really great Versailles!
Another great release from Rum Nation and I think the price matches what you get. Wonderful flowery nose and the palate is nice and dry and the wood hasn't taken over the prrofile. The finish is long, dry and warm with wood and tea. The empty glass releases even more and stronger flavours.
A well-crafted Versailles finished in whisky barrels. The nose is most atypical, at once whisky, earthy, iodized and mentholated, but also aromatic herbs (thyme) and spices typical of rums distilled in the Versailles still (licorice, anise) with a hint of exotic fruit. It's remarkably well-constructed, with no one flavor overpowering the others. The attack on the palate is equally fragrant and pleasant. Peaty whisky meets thyme, tea, tobacco, flowers, citrus and a peppery woodiness spread over a leathery background. Both DNAs are present, and the alchemy works well. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish, slightly shorter than expected, is a little drier, carried by tea, dried fruit, spicy wood and smoky whisky. A fine example of bottling with a whisky finish, original, pleasant and sure to delight lovers of both spirits.
I didn’t take any notes at the Rhum Fest so a more detailed review will follow as soon as I get the chance to sample this rum again in a better context. The Whisky finish keeps this one from scoring higher.
