Thompson Bros. T.D.L Trinidad Rum 2008
Highly praised cask-strength TDL with mint, wood and fruit in good balance. Powerful yet well-integrated alcohol, long warm finish and a dirty‑smoky twist many find addictive.
Fans of modern TDL who enjoy minty, woody, slightly dirty profiles at full cask strength and want a characterful yet reasonably balanced Trinidad rum from an indie bottler.

How does this rum taste?
Smoky minty TDL powerhouse
If you enjoy recent indie TDLs with mint and red fruits, this keeps that DNA but adds more wood, smoke and power—great if you’re ready for a punchier take.
Those sensitive to high ABV or looking for an ultra-fruity, soft or very complex TDL; anyone who dislikes minty notes or prominent oak and spice.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 280,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

It's exciting how the minty notes run through the various post-2000s TDL vintages. There are also spices, wood, marzipan sweetness and some fruit and tea. What is striking here is how strongly the mint aromas benefit from the influences of longer maturation. The mint and menthol aromas are still very dominant here, and I feel that the flavor counterpart at eye level is somewhat lacking. The rating is therefore not quite on the same level as other TDLs of this era.
Auto-translatedIntense, woody and spicy T.DL. Tastes very good to me
Great indie Scottisch bottler. With a very affordable line of Whisky and Rum releases. Great bar. Friendly people. TDL. Another distillery that released varied, sometimes dirty, but always fruity rums...when being released by the indies. This one starts of very smoky, burnt, thick, woody. A dirty layer over dries cherries. At least in the nose. Taste: smoky still, but gets less over time. There are the famous TDL berries. Red fruits. Medloul Dates. A bit dirty. A bit fresh. A whiff of menthol. Pretty classic modern TDL.
