“On the nose I have especially yellow fruit / mango, mint and caramel. On the palate passion fruit, toasty charred notes and menthol. The 64.3% is well integrated. Again, an excellent TDL from the early 2000s, but the Swell 2000 or the Nobilis 2001 score a bit higher.”

“Of the dirty TDLs, 2001 is the most prominent vintage. The 2001s are the dirtiest, 2002 is fresher and 2003 is yellow fruitier. In crosstasting, I tried the RA, TCRL, Nobilis, Plantation Antipodes and the new Rasta Morris. The rums are incredibly similar - esp. the Nobilis and RM are barely distinguishable. The RA stands out because of the dilution, the Plantation is clearly marked by the cognac barrel - it moves it closer to the 2003s - and the TCRL is the freshest, with an unusual herbal note. The TCRL is somewhat reminiscent of the 2002s. The cognac finish is quite present. The Plantation diverges the most from the rest. I was going to find this annoying at first, but alas, it is awesome. The cognac finish provides a boyhood and fruitiness that isn't there otherwise. The rum is lighter and more elegant, bringing some light caramel like the TCRL. Compared to the Nobilis and the RM, it is super juicy. The complexity does not suffer. On the contrary, driving out the tar and dark flavors a bit more opens up the rum. One of my favorite characteristics of many dirty TDLs is the peach iced tea in the finish. Here, it's particularly long and lovely, as it's loaded with relatively little woodiness. Great.”

“A Plantation coming from Trinidad and that makes the mouth water from the start with fresh and minty notes, chocolate, wood, spices and a beautiful basket of exotic fruits. The attack in mouth is warm, intense and spicy, but also greedy with fruits (orange, pineapple, banana), sweet spices and floral touch that perfumes the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated, the whole very round and very fine. The finish is long, on the same register of flavors, all in balance. A delicious rum, elegant and with character.”
