How does this rum taste?
RumX members love the punchy esters and overripe tropical fruit here—pineapple, banana, and a touch of vanilla and wood. Give it time in the glass: the initial glue/varnish nose settles into fruity, spicy notes with a dry, warm finish. Young but surprisingly round, often praised for value and even as a Mai Tai mixer. A popular Habitation Velier Long Pond with 148 community reviews. Only 1200 bottles.

A rather harsh rum when the sample is opened, it takes a few hours, but then synthetic varnish and fruit galore on the nose. Apple, pineapple, overripe banana. After a long wait, the palate is rather soft, the varnish fortunately more discreet, giving way to fruit and a vegetal note (lime blossom). The finish is long and fruity, with yellow and tropical fruits. I love it! A fine rum with balance and elegance on the palate and finish, but you have to be patient and disregard the first nose. It probably lacks age, but I definitely like Long Pond.
Raw and intense. Nice basket of tropical fruits and notes of honey. Don’t let yourself be fooled by the sort aging. Jamaican climate did do quite a lot to this Long Pond. The aftertastes is very long - delivering the ester and fruity notes you can expect from an unaged STCE. Summary: Very nice young expression, adding some cask flavors to the unaged profile. Obviously not a long aged easy sipper, though.
This Long Pond is very young and you notice that in every facet. Compared to the great NRJ/Velier STC♥️E, this is particularly clear - the woody spices, which there provide for a fantastic integration of the wild fruit, are almost completely absent here. In consequence, the HV is characterized by an immature acidity, which rather reminds ah vinegar, the sweet aromas are still very light, like meringue and a quite present marzipan note. That of course abundant tropical fruit. Except for some olive, the LP typical vegetal flavors are almost completely absent. In the mouth it is then surprisingly round and here also vanilla and caramel from the wood appear. We also find again the estry acetic acid, the overripe fruits from the nose. While this acidity often becomes penetrating and unpleasant in other rums, here it is a highlight of the wild, young profile. In the finish, as is often the case with young high ester rums, smoky curry leaves are added, again showing a new herbal facet. Overall, a beautiful, wild Long Pond, which also makes a good figure in the Mai Tai.
Damn! I actually thought I had an LP HV 2005 in my glass! Unfortunately, the label is the wrong one on the sample. That was a nasty surprise =D This Long Pond is well stocked with esters and fruit. An intense rum in which the alcohol becomes sweet and spicy in the finish. A young, tasty LP.
