“Un très beau profil de vieux Hampden continental d’une grande élégance, d’une rondeur remarquable et marqué par la lourdeur des fruits tropicaux et de la cerise. Les notes phénoliques sont bien présentes mais ne montrent pas d’agressivité. Pâtisserie, caramel, massepain, vanille et amande apportent leur lot de gourmandise sur ce profil complexe et élaboré. L’attaque en bouche est opulente, très fruitée (fruits tropicaux, agrumes) et très aromatique. On est sur un profil d’une grande profondeur, combinant la lourdeur funky, la gourmandise pâtissière et la finesse du fût. L’équilibre des saveurs est au point. L’alcool est remarquablement bien intégré. La finale est longue et raffinée. On y trouve de l’olive, du citron, de la banane, de l’ananas, de la mangue, des esters, des solvants, de la colle, des épices douces (anis, réglisse, vanille) du boisé et de la pâtisserie (caramel, massepain). Un superbe rhum qui évolue avec grâce tout au long de la dégustation.”

“Jour 10 du calendrier de Samples de Luxe. Les esthers et les fruits explosent au nez. La Jamaïque n’est pas loin. Du bois verni et comme un nez de masque de plongée. La bouche est étonnement douce et pourtant très expressive, à l’image d’un clairin haïtien. La finale est longue sur les fruits. Un rhum libre et fougueux mais pas classique, bien que j’ai reconnu Hampden. Je suis stupéfait de lire que ce rhum a 35 ans !! Je lui en avais donné 8. C’est seulement une fois le verre vidé que son grand âge se fait sentir pour la première fois. J’aime beaucoup.”
