How does this rum taste?
Sélection exclusive Velier is a distinct rum crafted at the Saint James distillery in Martinique. Distilled from sugar cane juice using a Creole Column, this rum was aged for seven years, giving it a complex yet balanced profile. With an ABV of 47%, its aroma prominently features agricole notes, complemented by vanilla, woody, orange peel, and floral influences. On the palate, it presents a woody and vanilla character, with hints of ginger, soap, and black pepper. User reviews highlight its diverse flavor profile, citing elements of creaminess, fresh agricole dryness, and a subdued woodiness. Criticisms often mention an unwelcome soapiness and variability across vintages. A unique offering from Velier, suitable for those exploring diverse agricole rums.

In the nose pleasing, but somewhat unimpressive in comparison: More fresh fruit, nice wood sweetness, again slightly floral notes. On the palate, nice wood, smokiness, subtle nougat and caramel sweetness and dried fruit. Solid, although in my opinion on the border of too intense smokiness.
Tasted at a private tasting for a good cause. 9th of the 10 Velier vintages. This had a bit of everything we tasted of all the other vintages. A great mix. Lighter in woodiness than the 2015. Buttery. Creamy but also something weirdy sharp. Lemons. Interesting. In taste: waxy agricole. Subtle wood flavours. More classic dry yet fresh agricole. Some hay. Reminds me a bit of Neisson 105.
