Velier Saint James Sélection exclusive Velier 2010
Most praise the complex, fruity-floral nose and classic grassy agricole core. Critics strongly dislike the dominant soapy/parfum off-note. Consensus: interesting, divisive rum for tolerant, experimental palates.
Agricole fans who enjoy dry, woody, floral profiles and don’t mind a pronounced soapy/parfum note if the nose and complexity are interesting enough.

How does this rum taste?
Complex but clearly soapy agricole
If you’re deep into agricoles and curious about quirky, slightly flawed vintages, this is worth a try; if soap or perfume turns you off, you’ll likely struggle with it.
Beginners, anyone sensitive to soapy/perfumey flavors, and drinkers expecting a smooth, sweet sipper or a clearly “clean” classic agricole profile.

Interesting nose full of christmas spices - licorice, cloves, cardamom; together with some sweet fruity candies and dried herbs. The taste and finish are also pretty nice, fruity, I got quite pronounced mandarin notes accompanied by the classic vegetal, grassy notes. Don't really understand the lower rating with this rum, I quite liked it. :)
Tasted at a private tasting. I remember this was a people's favourite. Good flavours not too old not too young. Nose: glue/nail polish. Vanilla. Caramel. Lime. Weird. Nice! Taste: soft agricole at first. Then very flowery. Parfum. Cardemom. Outspoken stuff. Funky in a non high esther way. White pepper. I like this but it's weird.
Dieses Set wollte schon lange verkostet werden. Als letztes heute den 2010er, morgen folgen die letzten drei. Holzig und medizinisch in der Nase. Am Gaumen auch überwiegend Holz, aber auch Karamell, Seife und Gras. Nix besonderes.
8,2:On the nose, a lot of fruits with dried apricots, banana, citrus like mandarine and lime peel, peaches, pairing grassy sugar cane and roasted wood with allspice, is the first impression we get. On aeration, the fruits are candied, the cane herbaceous, vegetal with mushrooms, earthy with tobacco and flowery, perfumed, a bit mineral.Waxy, medicinal notes arise, stronger roasted notes with caramel, nuts, pastry, a hint of Maggi and red fruits. 8,2:On the palate, the attack is fruity with citrus fruits like lemon, then cherry and peaches, woody with roasted notes like caramel, nuts, coffee, spices like pepper and salt, as the cane is grassy, fresh with tea. Resting the rum helps raisins and lemon peel, chocolate and leather, pastry, flowery and herbaceous touch of cane, some soap. 8,1:The finish is long, dry and bitter with sugarcane honey, grassy and flowery, vegetal with black tea, tobacco, the fruits are yellow, as the wood roasted, smoky with dark chocolate, coffee, peppery...
