How does this rum taste?
The Quarterdeck Single Cask Jamaica Rum, distilled at Hampden in 2009 and matured for 12 years, offers a complex profile with notable esters and tropical fruit flavors. Bottled at cask strength (50.8% ABV) by Duncan Taylor, this limited release of 335 bottles is characterized by a prominent glue and sweet aroma on the nose, with pineapple and ester-forward flavors. Users appreciate its balance between funk, fruit, wood, and spices, though some find the ester profile less intense than expected and alcohol integration lacking. Overall, it's seen as a decent expression with distinctive Hampden features, albeit a bit pricey for what it offers.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Restrained but very tasty nose DOK unmistakable. Typical HD aromas paired with esters. Alcohol barely perceptible. On the palate you can immediately taste the reduction in ABV but still delicious with pineapple, banana and papaya. Some cookie dough and fruit esters. But then disappears from the palate atypically quickly. Good bottling but simply too expensive for what it delivers.
Despite dilution high level!
This is in parts a really weird DOK. I dont think i get overly Esters, more so actually the cask. The esters have mellowd and blindly i have never wouldve guessed DOK. A not so great bottle i was not completely sorry to see go with this tasting.
A little weak for a DOK on the chest
