How does this rum taste?
Wood’s Old Navy Rum is crafted at the Diamond distillery in Guyana from molasses, offering a robust 57% ABV. This rum is noted for its intense raisin aroma with undertones of coffee, roasted spice, and brandy. On the palate, raisin and roasted flavors dominate, complemented by rich coffee, brandy, and a hint of cedar. While some users find it harsh and medicinal, others appreciate its warming, bold character. Suitable for sipping or mixing, it’s favored for its ability to serve as a versatile choice. Despite mixed sentiments on its smoothness and overpowering nature, it remains a prized option for those seeking a potent, richly flavored experience.

Typical diamond. Strong wood tones that already come through well in the distillate. Little ester
I wood bye this again enjoyed it very much
First review here, but I love the taste of a raisin rum, and Wood's navy rum was the one help me realize this. However, it is one of those rums I would not actively have multiple servings in go. It can knock you around quite harshly. I will always keep a bottle where I can, handy as it's an easy way to get tipsy and enjoy the flavour at the same time. I've had this as a mixer, as well as a sipper. I like it both ways.
The nose is a bit sharp. Notes of toffee and coffee are most present. Some raisins and cinnamon lingers in the background. Hints of brandy as well. The palette is just as sharp as the nose. The toffee has turned into thicker treacle and the coffee is still there. It's rather sweet. Some astringency on the back end. The finish is short with some pepper and molasses. Overall, not a great overproof. Quite rough, a touch medicinal and sickly. I doubt I'll pour another.
