How does this rum taste?
Exception by Famille Ricci is a 33-year-old rum distilled at Uitvlugt Distillery in 1989. Made from molasses with an ABV of 49.5%, this Guyanese rum has an aromatic blend of pear, wood, and coffee with menthol and a dry, leathery palate. While offering complexity and an intriguing nose, users noted it as lacking in balance when compared to similar rums from 1989. The rum’s high price was a point of contention, though some appreciated its nuanced herbal and woody profile. Overall, it presents a mature taste experience for discerning rum enthusiasts who appreciate aged variants.

Another grand old lady but not as good. Price to quality is out of balance. A nice rum though just not what I expected, I did prepare myself for a great experience but got burned a bit.
Aromatically quite complex - but it needs some patience. Plenty of spice and wood, which are reflected in licorice, leather, pepper and smoky notes. In addition, a passable portion of herbs and minimal sweetness with well-tarred alcohol. Meets overall unfortunately not completely my preferred Geachmacksprofil, so it is not enough in my subjective assessment for an even higher score - despite undisputed high level.
Small 1989 Utivlugt cross tasting: Nobilis vs. CorCol vs. CoR vs. Ricci vs. TWJ. On the nose: CoR >>> Ricci > TWJ = Nob > CC With its higher ABV the CoR is playing in a wholly different league - stunning on the nose. CC needs very much time to open up. TWJ with the darkest nose; Most leather and wood forwards. Palate: CoR > Nobilis > CC > TWJ >> Ricci While I really enjoy the nose on this one, it cannot hold up an the palate. Feels watered down with less fruity notes and significantly less balance vs. other 89s.
Sehr guter, komplexer, typischer Vertreter des Port Mourant aus 1989. Ich mag das Geschmacksprofil sehr gerne! Leider zwei Mankos: der Preis und der niedrige Alkoholgehalt.
