I’ve tasted and retasted this and keep returning to the conclusion that this is an absolute banger of a rum. The nose is full of sweet and sour fruits with an interesting touch of apple juice. As to be expected from the barrel choice: oak and spice. But leave it to open up and you’ll discover a surplus of flowers and fresh mint. The virgin oak really works its magic on the tastebuds. Vanilla and caramelised notes integrate the high ester fruitiness into a more balanced experience. The medicinal touch is still here, however supported by light agricole flavours on the finish. This rum perfectly showcases what virgin oak can do for a young spirit.
This rum does so much right and is very enjoyable up to the point of the alcohol burn. This really ruins it for me. It could have been so much more. I get the idea of the virgin cask: with minimal years a maximal result. Not optimal in this case. This rum would benefit so much of additional aging. I would like to try this rum with 4-5 years of aging. A bit of extra resting might integrate the alcohol better.
