How does this rum taste?
Takamaka Extra Noir Charred Cask Rum, distilled in Seychelles, offers a unique blend crafted from molasses and sugarcane juice, showcasing vanilla, oak, and fruity aromas. This rum, known for its peppery and woody flavors with hints of vanilla and charred tones, appeals to those seeking an agricole-like, entry-level rum. Users appreciate its balance and pleasant sweetness, although some find it lacks complexity, dominated by burnt wood notes. With its 43% ABV, this offering from Trois Frères Distillery sits in the mid-range, suitable for both sipping and mixing in cocktails.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 260,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 47,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

A visit to the Takamaka distillery is worthwhile! During the pandemic, the distillery has built up a second mainstay alongside its high-quality pot still made from fresh sugar cane juice from the Seychelles in very small quantities with a triple column still that works with molasses from abroad (Mauritius). This enables continuous production in large quantities, serving the cocktail and beginner segment. Extra Noir, however, comes from the middle segment, as it also has pot still components and a somewhat more elaborate storage process than that of the lower segment. However, I find the burnt aromas in the mouth and finish too dominant and sharp. Unfortunately, apart from the Zepis Kreol, there were no other rums from this segment available for tasting.
Very nice surprise
Sehr stark getoastetes Holz und leider kaum fruchtige Aromen, geschweige denn florale Aromen. Trotzdem kein schlechter Rum. Funktioniert gut in Drinks.
Ziemlich gruselig. Sehr scharfer Alkohol und die verbrannte Holznote im Abgang übertönt den an sich recht leichten Rum total. Nicht zu empfehlen
