Very unusual profile for a Foursquare. Surprisingly many fresh fruit aromas, plus planty-floral notes. The palate also has a pleasant sweetness alongside finely balanced spices. Great complexity, the presumed reduction in alcohol content also plays into the rum's hands. I like it very much.
Nose far from our Foursquare benchmarks: roasted dried fruit, honey-sassonade, flambéed banana, eucalyptus and burnt wood. Alcohol is present, but invites tasting. The attack on the palate is frank and surprising. There's crème brûlée, wood, pepper and, above all, a smoky profile unusual for this distillery. The finish is pleasant and long, but less surprising than the 1st mouthful. Cocoa and menthol finish. Is it the fact that this is a 100% pot still selection, or that it has spent time in a typical cask (not mentioned) or ... but this profile is very different from our benchmarks. It's often said that a foursquare is a foursquare. I invite you to taste it, you'll never say that again with this smoky profile that suits it so well! It has a sort of Demerara profile. I like it!
