How does this rum taste?
- Complex aroma profile
- Interesting cask influence
- Balanced alcohol integration
The Chalong Bay Double Barrel rum, hailing from Thailand's Chalong Bay Distillery, blends sugarcane juice distillation with a potent 47% ABV. Users reported a harmonious aroma of vanilla, sugarcane, and citrus complemented by a pronounced taste of spice, wood, and pepper. Aged in French oak and Armagnac casks, it offers a unique, albeit dry and astringent, profile that resonates with both fruitiness and spiciness. While some find its bouquet appealing and complex, others note its overly woody and bitter finish. This rum appeals particularly to those appreciating nuanced cask influences and the emerging Asian rum market's creativity.

"Trifft jetzt irgendwie nicht do ganz meinen Geschmack, ist aber ansonsten ganz okay. Kaum definierbare Nase, für mich hier Vanille und tropischen Früchten. Am Gaumen kommen dann noch Holz und Gewürze hinzu. Ansonsten recht alkoholisch. Durchschnitt, mehr nicht."

"Really nice nose - but taste unfortunately really very woody, bitter sour and extremely dry and furry astringent ... Here, the otherwise so beautiful fruity spicy Chalong bay rum unfortunately has no chance against Armagnac cask and Virgin oak to arrive... Too bad! Had I hoped for more of."

"A young Thai rum with plenty of flavor and deliciousness. The nose combines the floral and vegetal flavors of sugarcane with exotic fruits (lychee) and citrus fruits for a very round, smooth whole. Mild spices add a touch of complexity. The attack on the palate is more lively, carried by lots of spice, notes of young wood and some empyreumatic flavors that have had a certain impact on the profile despite the slight ageing. Floral notes and exotic fruits return in force, with a few mineral and caramelized notes to complement. Overall, the wine is well realized and the alcohol well integrated. On the finish, the fruit is more subdued, replaced by menthol, floral, herbal and spicy notes. Good length. A very pleasant rum with a varied profile, confirming Asia's rise to prominence in the rum market."

"Probiert auf dem 12 GRF in Berlin: Für die kurze Lagerung erstaunlich viel Einfluss des Fasses (Virgin Oak). Mit mehr Prozent und noch älter auf jeden Fall Potential vorhanden"
