How does this rum taste?
- Complex aroma profile
- Pleasant spice and fruit balance
- Harmonious flavor notes
Montebello Flora Antillarum, bottled by Velier, is a limited-edition rum produced at Carrere Distillery in Guadeloupe. Distilled in 2002 from molasses and sugar cane juice using a column still, it aged for 19 years and is bottled at 41.3% ABV. Tasting notes reveal intense aromas of peaches, vanilla, and tea with a hint of demerara sugar. The palate features hay, vanilla, and mandarin, with herbal and woody undertones. Reviews suggest a pleasant olfactory profile, but note a lighter body than expected, questioning the cask strength’s impact. The rum is particularly appreciated for its aromatic complexity, although its pricing and intensity garner mixed feelings.

"A good expression of montebello!Very rich and fruity but I would have liked to hear it with more degrees. The yield would have been better!"
"A very sweet fruity nose! Almost sherry-like!The palate is, although the rum light and thin comes along, quite intense and complex!Fruit and herbs alternate harmoniously! The finish is then again typical Agricole!A good rum, which would probably have been excellent with higher ABV"
"An old agricultural rum with a very pleasant olfactory profile, oscillating between fruits (tropical, dry and orange), spices, vegetable notes, coffee and caramel, for a very harmonious whole. In the mouth, the rum is very light and sweet, carried by a profile of sweet spices, cinnamon, hazelnuts and almonds, a succinct fruity side and aromas of cappuccino, chocolate, caramel and hay are also felt. The finish is slightly lacking in impact, though citrus, wood, spice, chocolate, and herbal and floral notes come through. A very good rum on paper, but very expensive for the final rendition, which lacks the intensity to be a level above."
"Becomes a bit too sweet and sour for me overall, which I attribute to the dilution of the original distillate. Initially with beautiful complexity of fruits, honey, nougat and spices - but at the back just too thin and almost watered down, which gives the citrus fruits in the interplay with the sweetness too much weight. Too bad, because for me the assumption remains that more would have been possible here with more ABV also taste."
