Uitvlugt S.B.S Guyana ICBU 1998
Highly regarded as a dry, roasted Guyana sipper with balanced wood, cocoa and dried fruit; characterful and pleasant, though more restrained and lean than many hoped at this age and strength.
Enthusiasts of dry, old-school Demerara who enjoy roasted cocoa, coffee and wood notes at cask strength and appreciate a more restrained, non-sweet profile.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

A very light color, a nose dominated by alcohol, with wood, varnish, banana and a light encaustic. The alcohol is better integrated on the palate, but the aromas don't really develop. Despite the high ABV, there's a sense of dilution, with ghostly aromas of varnished wood, stale rose and a few tropical fruits that linger for a long time. The empty glass exudes encaustic wood. It's as if the bartender had replaced the bottled rum with neutral alcohol so as not to get caught.
Interesting profile, alcohol could be better integrated
Now already tasted several times on different days (my only ICBU), is still not more to get out of this rum - it remains a rum in the lower 80 points range. While on the nose in the later course nice walnut notes peek out of the initial sweetness, the rum can not really convince me on the palate: As crazyforgoodbooze already wrote here, the rum seems strangely thin and alcoholic at the same time. This ICBU is not bad, but also truly no sensation. Conclusion: for the relatively high price of at least 200 EUR, there are clearly better rums. Too bad.
This is a pretty good Uitvlugt and the price matches the quality. Dried fruit and roasted wood stands perfectly next to nuts, chocolate and some coffee notes.
