The Rum Sponge No. 12, an exquisite Guyanese masterpiece from the Uitvlugt distillery, delights with its complex profile. Tasted blind at the Community x-mas meeting. The Guyana origin was unmistakable. Lots of herbs, licorice, malt, caramel and some pencil shavings on the nose. Many thanks to my Secret Santa for the great sample!
What a beguiling nose... very multi-faceted, intense and fruity.... Excellent!On the palate, the rum spreads creamy oily to all corners of the mouth and fills it with an interplay of woody, herbal, toasty, dried fruit and coffee! This fits and harmonizes !If the finish was a little longer... it would have been easily enough for an "excellent"! But it remains an exception!
Very complex in its depth of aroma and at the same time incredibly round and palatable. Appealing woody notes with spicy and herbal facets meet appropriate fruitiness and floral nuances and, together with the very full mouthfeel, manage to inspire me in the long term.
