How does this rum taste?
The Long Pond 'LSO' 1998 is a Jamaican rum bottled by Rest & Be Thankful with a robust 55.5% ABV. Aged for 23 years, this limited release captures a complex profile of vegetal, oaky aromas and bold flavors of oak, demerara sugar, and tannins. Despite high expectations, user reviews are mixed, noting a lack of complexity with a flat finish, and a pronounced acidity and bitterness. The distillation from molasses shines through, but some hint at an atypical Long Pond experience, recommending patience to allow the rum to open up. I first notice the fresh and floral nose. Would I have blind rather assigned Port Mourant. I like it already very well. The floral does not reappear on the palate. Nevertheless, the rum remains rather like a very expressive Port Mourant. The long finish continues homogeneously. Only at the very end a few fruit esters flash up. Very good rum, atypical of Long Pond. Perfect for confusion in a blind tasting.
Hätte ich blind nie auf Long pond getippt, Frucht fehlt geschmacklich total ist insgesamt nur bitter und verbrannt. Schade!
Needs much time to open up. Overall not very exciting imho, unfortunately.
Slightly sticky, otherwise very flowery, herbal nose. Turns out a little flat towards the end and has an unpleasant acidity and bitterness.
