Hampden RA HD C<>H 1993

Ran out of competition because of his age. Would have been the clear winner in an unequal duel. Crosstasting C◇H 1st Kill Devil 2. FRC C◇H 3. the Duchess 4. TBRC Frankenstein 5. the Whisky Jury

Unfortunately, this Hampden disappointed my expectations. The nose is really fruity and funky....as expected. But it is very astringent, almost undrinkable. Even a few drops of water don't make it any better.

Die Nase ist intensiv und komplex und gibt alles her was man von einem C<>H erwartet. Am Gaumen richtig schön intensiv und auch leicht adstringend. Vanille und würzige Noten sind vorhanden, dazu trop. Früchte und eine leichte Marzipan-Note.

Sorry for the rating but it's really not my cup of tea... after another tasting it's just undrinkable, the varnish is omnipresent on the nose (nothing really titillating for me) and on the palate it's just undrinkable. It's a personal opinion but I can't do that... very surprised that it's rated 88... for 385 euros there's a lot better... really better...

Je suis pas objectif tellement j’aime les HD 😍 Donc je vais me contenter de dire qu’il est excellent malgré qu’on sente un peu l’alcool (au bout de 15 mins) mais que c’est beaucoup mieux intégré au bout de 45 mins. Très fruité, sur l’ananas et les fruits tropicaux, la pointe d’olive, j’adore 😍😍😍

Extremely alcoholic and too much glue or varnish (acetone). Improves slightly with a little water

Nose: the pineapple and esters jump out at me from the glass! I'm immediately reminded of the rum flavoring my mother used to bake from little bottles. This is definitely a definite step up from the Hampden Great House bottlings! Then overwhelming on the palate with pineapple and the other typical markers of Hampden Distillery. All very finely nuanced. The alcohol is present with the right strength.In the medium to long finish, the (rancid) butter comes through again 😁 The crass notes of rum fade quite quickly and a dull note that is difficult to describe remains for a long time.I unfortunately have no reference for the 1993 Hampden, supposedly there are even better bottlings. For me, however, it is already in the range of "excellent"

To disgust you with Hampden!

Ester bomb! Perhaps a tad less expressive than the rum from the sister barrel 260 (RX11189), but still a very thick board. And hey, at what level are we moving here! 😉 In any case, I thought at first I had a DOK in the glass, so astringent was the rum at the tasting. Hard to imagine that the 168 bottles of this 'crass rum" (O-Ton Whiskytrinker) will not be sold out immediately. So I can only recommend it.

Dieser Duft, ich liebe es, wenn er den Raum erfüllt ! Es geht doch nichts über einen guten Hampden , vor allem wenn er diese Reife hat. Für mich erfüllt er genau die Erwartungen, die ich hatte, auch wenn andere 1993 in Nuancen vielleicht ausgewogener sind! Er bringt alles mit, was ihn als ausgezeichnet bewerten lässt: Ester, vergorene gebackene Ananas, Marzipan, etwas Schärfe und diese Intensivität, die mich immer wieder fasziniert

Oh man was soll ich sagen, ein Richtig geiler Hampden hier. Viel Ester und tropische Früchte wie Ananas in der Nase. Am Gaumen dann dasselbe, außerdem sehr astringwnt und auch nach Politur schmecken. Rum des Tage :)

Ein großartiger Hampden. Er verströmt einen intensiven Geruch nach Ananas, Plätzchenteig, vergorenen Früchten und Rosinen. Eine typische funky Nase. Sehr geschmeidig und rund im Geschmack mit perfekt eingebundenem Alkohol. Esther, Marzipan, viel Banane und ein vergorener Obstkorb kommen geschmacklich besonders zur Geltung. Als Kontrast dazu schmeckt man leicht Olive und etwas salziges raus. Der Abgang ist für den Alkoholgehalt erstaunlich kurz, aber dennoch nachhaltig warm. Für mich ein wirklich toller Rum der genau meinen Geschmack trifft.

Welch edles Destillat. Er brauch wirklich seine Zeit im Glas, im ersten Test war echt pelzig, aber nach ca. ner halben Stunde, perfekt. Diese High Ester Hampden Nase ist schon grandios, ich kann keine Vergleiche zu anderen 93ern machen,für mich reicht dieser um mich zu begeistern. Erstaunlich süß am Gaumen,mit der bekannten Ananasnote, Marzipan und feiner Würze. Was mich bei diesen alten Hampdens verblüfft, sie haben fast keine Holzaromen die den Rum bitter werden lassen, wie es bei diversen Guyanas der Fall ist. Danke für dieses tolle Sample.😘

#4487 03-04.11.2023 Den Danske Whiskyfestival. Again a special meet up besides the event itself because we think it's a bit too dull. Had a great time with friends again. My notes. Nose: fresh, light wood, ester, pineapple, varnish, light marzipan. Palate: light wood, natural sweetness, pineapple, marzipan, ester. Finish: long and warm with fruits and vegetal notes. Empty glass has very light glue notes.

Oh yes, a nice, intense, funky HD. I like.Nose: esters and vinegar. Very clear. Clearly fermented and vinegar. Pineapple marzipan almond. That actually describes it quite well. This floral honey sweetness also comes from the fermented pineapple.Palate: wow, fine esters, clearly astringent, sweet and sour gooseberry and pineapple, pineapple, pineapple! Sweet almond paste - or marzipan. At the back comes very light licorice.Just delicious. I'm really into high Ester Hampden. And the age suits him excellently, even if in HD the age brings only subtle nuances from my point of view.
