How does this rum taste?
- Complex flavor profile
- Rare and limited edition
- High ABV for intensity
The "ITP" rum from Long Pond distillery in Jamaica is a 1998 vintage, aged for 23 years, selected by Rest & Be Thankful. With an ABV of 59.6%, this limited release (188 bottles) offers prominent notes of pineapple and vanilla on the nose, complemented by a woody, spicy palate. Reviews reflect a balanced complexity of esters and citrus, with opinions differing on its overall expressiveness and value. A dash of water might enhance the flavor spectrum. As a rare bottling, its nuanced character is appreciated by some, despite perceived shortcomings in fruitiness and development.

"Still quite young and beastly on the palate."
"18.06.2022 Running through some samples at home. Notes Light to medium dark in colour. Nose Balanced, light wood, banana, light pineapple, light anise, faint caramel, ginger, light tar, light esters. Palate Oily, light roasted wood, light orange, fruity, light ginger, banana, faint coconut, medium spicy, light anise. Finish Medium long and warm, fruity, banana, light licorice, light citrus, light caramel. Extra note. By adding a little water a whole bouquet of new flavours will appear."
"An old, but probably mostly continental aged LP already sounds good.Nose: despite the almost 60% initially quite closed. Spicy and slightly woody attack with lots of citrus, lime and tangerine. Behind it a subtle honey note. Matching like vanilla and sweet, soft licorice.Palate: very pleasantly restrained. Spicy-woody with deep esters and a nice umami note. Restrainedly fruity with lemon zest and sour cherry. There's also some licorice in the background again. In addition, something Fiji-usual pencil lead, newsprint. In the yet quite short finish, still licorice, some blackberry and anise.Despite the very pleasant flavor profile a bit too closed."
"A very soft nose, on pineapple, soft yellow fruits (peach ? apricot ?), a sweetness. It is not very expressive but greedy.in mouth, big spicy, big heat. Esters and very ripe fruits. It is greedy, strong, complex. It evolves in the mouth. Good length in the mouth, on the same notes.it's very good. Greedy and expressive. But not sure it's worth the 250โฌ for the bottle.Edit: no, it's clearly not worth 250โฌ."
