RA Jamaica Rum MRJB 1977
Highly regarded as a delicate, old-Jamaica profile with refined wood, vanilla and tropical notes. Loved for elegance and age, though more subtle and light-bodied than its stats suggest.
Curious explorers and whisky/cognac fans who enjoy subtle, mature wood-driven rums with gentle vanilla, caramel and tropical fruit rather than high-ester Jamaican funk.

How does this rum taste?
Delicate, elegant old Jamaica sipper
If you enjoy refined, oak-driven sippers like well-aged Appleton or older whisky, this will likely click—just don’t expect massive funk or power despite the impressive age statement.
Fans of big funky Jamaicans or high-intensity cask strength bruisers, and anyone sensitive to very high pricing versus perceived intensity and body.
A delicious rum, without being a marvel of complexity. The combination of a smooth mouthfeel and bitter aftertaste is interesting, but rum aficionados aren't missing out on anything if they haven't had this rum in their glass. Cognac or whiskey fans will probably like it. At €699 for 0.5 liters, the price is at the very top end of the scale. Perhaps appropriate in theory for a rum from 1977, but far too expensive for me personally. Regardless of the price, I still like the '77 bottling slightly better than the '82 MRJB, which simply rushed through my mouth.

Definitely more exciting than the 1982 MRJB. Beautiful combination of tropical fruits, some caramel and milk chocolate, a little bit of mint and surprisingly little wood for 45 years old. I like well but is me 1. overall still a bit too thin and 2. is the price of 700 € RRP for me not justified...
