“The finish pushes through extremely here, of course. I lack the experience of how "wet" one has to imagine a maple syrup barrel - taste-wise, however, a good portion of syrup may have landed in the rum here. Interesting experiment. I'll draw a comparison to the 70s Woods, as Demerara rum there also comes on very strong maple syrup notes - but the Woods retains much more of the classic Guyana character and convinces with a more complex overall picture. Very accessible rum, but unfortunately also quickly becomes somewhat tiring, because the sweetness is very present and the profile is too one-dimensional for me.”

“On the nose, there's no doubt that it smells of syrup (blindly, I even thought it was a test of maceration on Sirop de Liège). It's ultra-dominant, heading for Justin Trudeau territory and the Rocky Mountains ... but digging deeper, we find fruitiness (banana-tropical fruit) and rather expressive aromas (Funky). On the palate, it feels like a herbaceous maple-syrup candy you'd suck on while watching a field hockey game on a frozen Quebec lake. As a result, it's very sweet, but with some hints of Jamaican, with overripe fruit, lemon, molasses and a little funk. The finish is long on wood and vanilla, but somewhat nauseating. I have to admit I'm not too keen on this finish, which is too sweet for my palate.”
