How does this rum taste?
- Notes of coconut, vanilla, caramel, wood
- Creamy and full-bodied mouthfeel
- Balanced, well integrated alcohol
The Royal Cane Cask Company 1994 from New Yarmouth gets the RumX crowd talking about its classic notes of coconut, vanilla, and woody dried fruits—often with caramel and a touch of varnish. Most agree it’s a full yet balanced Jamaican rum with, as @mto75 puts it, "Kokosnuss, Vanille, Kuchen an der Nase." The mouthfeel lands as "creamy and full-bodied" (@Gunnar Böhme) and the finish tends elegant, if not overly intense. While its subtle complexity pulls many in, more than one reviewer notes a softer, perhaps more "rounded" expression versus other NY94s.

"This is a pretty good rum but I'd say the price is a bit high. You can get the same quality from New Yarmouth cheaper out there. Leave it to rest for a while for the flavours to really develop. The nose is fruity with spices, nuts and wood as well as a hint of varnish. The palate is complex, well balanced and oily with fruits, wood, nuts, caramel and vanilla. The finish is medium to long with fruits, wood and caramel."
"I can well understand why this rum won the big NY94 comparison of the Franconian Tasting Gang. You can almost taste the tropics. The rum is creamy and full-bodied and has everything that makes it a great rum. I especially like the epic finish. Many thanks to zabo for the sample!"
"Most people know the New Yarmouth 1994 profile. 😎😎😎 This one is a little more rounded. The focus is more on gingerbread and macaroons than dried fruit and coconut. Very furry in the mouth and the alcohol burns out the throat. The finish is a little short. For me, this vintage is solidly in the second quartile, which still makes it a very good rum."
"So far the winner of the batch. Nose is particularly nice in this bottling."
