Salon du Rhum Hampden Jamaica C<>H
Fruit, esters, caramel, and complexity—mature Hampden in balance.
Rich, fruity notes dominate—ripe mango, pineapple and caramel over Hampden’s signature ester funk. For those who enjoy layered, evolving Jamaican rums, this is one to try if you enjoy deep fruit and subtle smoke.

How does this rum taste?
The Jamaica C<>H 1990 from Hampden, bottled by Salon du Rhum, balances classic high-ester notes of pineapple, mango, and solvent with touches of caramel and smoky wood. Users describe it as "superbe Hampden continental avec une très belle concentration aromatique" (TheRhumhoe), with a remarkable fruitiness supported by gentle pastry and spice. The alcohol is "perfekt eingebunden" (F.L.O.), resulting in a creamy, mellow palate despite the 31-year age. There’s a consensus on its complexity and length, though a few find the finish a bit medicinal.

Day 12 of the Samples de Luxe calendar and tasted again a year and a half later. Jamaica and Hampden are evident on the nose. Funky and fruity, lots of tropical fruit. On the palate, despite the esters and thanks to the fruitiness, the sensation is pleasant, almost easy with a little silkiness. The finish is a little disappointing, with a bitter, medicinal taste replacing the fruit. A fine rum, dense and balanced, easy to drink and with character. If I'd guessed Hampden, I'd never have imagined so many years of aging...
Wow, this is a lovely and fruity Hampden where you can get the ester notes. Great balance between fruit, spices and smoky wood with a touch of caramel.
Not quite the level of the 1993. A good HD 1990, but not a top level for me, so in my eyes a tad too expensive.
Tastes quite good to me ... often these old 1990s Jamaicans are too soft for me. Here is a great balance of roundness but still enough pep. However, I like the 1993 sister bottling a little better (from memory)
