A 40-year-old rum is not often in the glass. The nose surprises with a great intensity - the 45.1% is not felt here at all. On the palate, however, the expectation can not be kept - the rum has simply too little power and evaporates too quickly. The bottom line is still a great experience.

Exquisite nose with dense tropical fruit aromatics, subtle woodiness and elegant sweetness. Promising up to this point, even if it is not a firework of complexity. On the palate then unfortunately surprisingly thin, although the flavor picture of the nose is repeated and is still complemented by toasty flavors, but taste-wise it remains overall somewhat weak on the chest to slight wateriness.

Trotz des niedrigen ABV zeigt sich der MRJB in der Nase sehr intensiv. Die jamaikanische Herkunft ist nicht zu verleugnen, es dominieren Aromen von Früchten, Holz und Tabak. Alle Aromen sind schön miteinander verwoben, der Geruch macht richtig Lust auf mehr. Am Gaumen kann er jedoch nicht mithalten: Zwar ist der Rum unglaublich weich und die Holznote ist für das Alter überraschend zurückhaltend (man denke da nur an den 1991er KFM oder die alten Appletons), aber insgesamt ist der Geschmack recht dünn. Zumindest für eine Flasche, die auf den Liter hochgerechnet 900 Euro kostet. Das Alter macht diesen Rum fraglos zu etwas Besonderem. Aber es ist keine Abfüllung, die man probiert haben muss. Preis: 449 Euro pro 0,5 Liter

In itself, a beautiful old Jamaica blend with surprisingly little wood and a nice mixture of tropical fruits, herbs, marzipan and milk chocolate with slightly bitter-roasty overtones. Overall, however, unfortunately just really too thin and not worth nearly 1000€ the liter. Sorry...

on the nose baked apple, allspice, baking spice, dried fruit and a slight acidity towards aceto balsamico. On the palate milk chocolate, leather, barrel, date. Liked it quite a bit. The rather thin 45.1% does not necessarily seem watery, in this respect everything ok.

Looking at this standalone and with sufficient time to breath, the nose is surprisingly intense based on the very low ABV. Nice and complex blend of fruits, wood and spices with no single component overwhelming the mix. Quite enjoyed this. Unfortunately, it can’t quite keep up on the palate and in terms of finish. While there is surely a lot to taste, both feel very mellow and can’t translate the very nice nose into a truly amazing rum.

Für mich persönlich war das ein Erlebnis einen 40 Jahre alten Rum im Glas zu haben. Die 45% Alkohol gehalt, hat man nicht gemerkt, sehr gut eingebunden. Ich muss jedoch sagen das ich mehr erwartet hätte. Kein schlechter Tropfen, jedoch Luft nach oben bei dem Preis für meinen Geschmack. Nachtrag: Foto

The nose is beguiling, from the glass flows an intense fruitiness, which I would not have expected in such an old rum!On the palate then the disillusionment, relatively flat and thin he comes along! It lacks clear peaks and be it only the expected woodiness ... this is disappointing!The palate is also unspectacular and relatively short!Too bad, the nose had really promised a lot!

Den hätte ich gerne mit 55 % aufwärts gehabt. So ist er zwar in der Nase komplex und intensiv, am Gaumen wirkt er aber etwas dünn, dafür schön rund. Preis-Leistung stimmt m.E. jedoch auch für die 40 Jahre nicht.

Tried on the 11th GRF and for me one of the disappointments there. Very flat and closed . Clearly, such bottlings are unicorns and are becoming increasingly rare, but for me not worth this price. Very sad...

Not a bad rum, but not outstanding either. Unfortunately, much too thin and quickly evaporated. Even if it is to be barrel strength, should not have been diluted with water here, but enriched with alcohol ;)
