Clarendon RA Jamaica Rum EMB 2009
Fans like the dirty Clarendon funk, mint and herbs; critics find it harsh, bitter and poorly integrated. Consensus: interesting but unbalanced EMB, mainly for patient, experienced drinkers.
Seasoned Jamaican lovers who enjoy dry, dirty Clarendon profiles, don’t mind ethanol punch, and are happy to let a glass sit for an hour or tweak it with water.

How does this rum taste?
Wild, woody, minty Clarendon bruiser
If you like intense, woody, herbal Clarendons and don’t fear some burn and bitterness, this can be rewarding—just give it lots of air or water and treat it as a wild side-step.
Beginners, anyone sensitive to high ABV or bitterness, and drinkers expecting the balance and depth of older EMBs or an easy tropical fruit sipper.
The first sip tastes. Fruits, citrus, a little salt. Second sip. Tastes even better to me. Some wood, but not too much. Pineapple, perhaps not the ingenious barbecue pineapple from the grill known from some Hampdens, but already noticeably a fruit basket, as you can otherwise only drag away on Sunday mornings at the Hamburg fish market. The alcohol is well integrated.

Auto-translatedHm, I am trying to access this sample, but it is not possible. Harsh alcohol, quite dry. Nose is with lots of wood, not much else to the nose, and palate. Sadly, I am underwhelmed. Rating off 6 says it's good, which I would not attribute to it. It's a sad thing.
8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is vegetal with grass, leather notes and fruity with overripe tropical fruits like kiwi, banana. Then it becomes medicinal with some glue and roasted. Aeration brings out even more vegetal notes as herbs and mint, citrusy nuances with some lime peel, bergamot. It is fresher than before, as floral notes join, is fibrous, wood is a nice companion. We cannot avoid some metallic notes... Well balanced and round. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is a bit rough, but tasty, as chamomile, mint and herbs soften spiciness and some intense medicinal notes as petrol and high ABV. Some meaty notes could be fleeting... As the first wave calms, tropical fruits as kiwi, citrus like lime, lime peel and dried figs jump in the bandwagon. It is fresh with grass, mineral and a bit waxy. There are yeast and cookie dough notes. The palate becomes darker for a while with molasses, licorice, resin and menthol, a bit musty. 8,5:The finish is long, woody and dry, vegetal with herbal, floral and chamomile notes, fruity with lime and pineapple and for finish spicy, a bit mineral and there is also some liquorice.. Very good indeed...?! Strange past reviews....
Nase: trotz sehr hohen Alkoholgehaltes kein Brennen. Milde Fruchtester, die bei anderen Jamaikanern schonmal stechend sind. Darunter das grasig-pflanzliche, Orangen/Kumquat-Aroma der Eggert-RA Serie. Keine Fehlnoten in meinem Sample.
