Foursquare ECS XIX Sovereignty
Sovereignty takes classic Foursquare flavours—vanilla, dark chocolate, spice—and adds a measured sherry twist. It's dry, a bit woody, and bold; a good pour if you like your rum less sweet and don't mind some heat.
Rich vanilla, chocolate, and spice on a dry, woody base.

How does this rum taste?
- A very good Foursquare. Enjoyed it a lot.
- Full bodied and very tasty.
- The nose is fruity with oak and vanilla.
Foursquare's Sovereignty ECS XIX is all about a lively interplay of vanilla, chocolate, and dried fruit on a solid woody backbone. Many mention the “caramel base” (Gyuli) and a noticeable sherry influence that brings fruity sweetness, though it stays subtle for some tasters. The high ABV is commented on often—sometimes seen as "a bit more caramelized sweetness” (Kasper), sometimes tipping into sharpness. As Jack M notes, a bit of water helps: "resting made me change my initial rating.

"Beginning somewhat alcoholic nose... Sherry comes through well makes it more fruity and slightly sweeter in comparison ... After a bit of time in the glass, the spiciness fades a bit and it seems more harmonious ... The sherry cask has done a good job and brings mMn the typical Foursquare character something forward and makes it different (which is very welcome in view of the countless bottlings) prices beyond the 100€ I see as excessive."
"Very, very tasty, albeit quite typical foursquare! But it's definitely very easy to drink and doesn't offend at any point. The sherry finish is also not so extremely dominant here and doesn't overpower the rum. Beautiful!"
"Overall a fantastic rum described in three words, sovereign dry and oaky. We were some friends teaming up at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm to celebrate Foursquare Appreciation Day. We started up with tasting of the four different ones seen at the added photo under lead of our friend the Swedish importer Lars Renbjer. The fourth out was the Sovereignty (ECS XIX) which was released on November 2021 celebrating Barbados Independence Day (November 30th), which makes the name of it understandable. It’s a molasses based blend of pot and column still rums aged for a total of 14 years with 3 years in ex-Bourbon and 11 years in former sherry casks. Bottled at ABV 62%. "Very nice FS. Finish works well here - accompanies the classic FS notes very well adding some red fruits and depth."
