How does this rum taste?
Most reviewers love how this Foursquare combines classic vanilla, caramel, and chocolate notes with a noticeable sherry influence that brings extra fruit and depth. It's often compared to other favorites like Nobiliary and Redoutable but stands out for being a bit more robust and dry, with woody and spicy flavors balancing the sweetness. Many simply enjoy it neat or add a splash of water to open it up. A favorite for experienced rum fans—complex, smooth, and never too sweet—it's a repeat buy for many who appreciate a well-structured cask-strength sipper.

Beginning somewhat alcoholic nose... Sherry comes through well makes it more fruity and slightly sweeter in comparison ... After a bit of time in the glass, the spiciness fades a bit and it seems more harmonious ... The sherry cask has done a good job and brings mMn the typical Foursquare character something forward and makes it different (which is very welcome in view of the countless bottlings) prices beyond the 100€ I see as excessive.
Very, very tasty, albeit quite typical foursquare! But it's definitely very easy to drink and doesn't offend at any point. The sherry finish is also not so extremely dominant here and doesn't overpower the rum. Beautiful!
Overall a fantastic rum described in three words, sovereign dry and oaky. We were some friends teaming up at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm to celebrate Foursquare Appreciation Day. We started up with tasting of the four different ones seen at the added photo under lead of our friend the Swedish importer Lars Renbjer. The fourth out was the Sovereignty (ECS XIX) which was released on November 2021 celebrating Barbados Independence Day (November 30th), which makes the name of it understandable. It’s a molasses based blend of pot and column still rums aged for a total of 14 years with 3 years in ex-Bourbon and 11 years in former sherry casks. Bottled at ABV 62%. Very nice FS. Finish works well here - accompanies the classic FS notes very well adding some red fruits and depth.
