How does this rum taste?
- Complex aroma profile
- Standout licorice flavor
- Interesting finish
The Demerara Rum, distilled in Guyana in 2002 and bottled by Samaroli, is a cask strength spirit aged for 19 years with a 48% ABV. This limited edition of 397 bottles is crafted from molasses, presenting a diverse sensory profile. Users note an alcoholic, roasted, and fruity nose with hints of burnt sugar. On the palate, it reveals licorice, woody notes, and a touch of citrus, though some find it diluted. The finish is medium with elements of banana, tobacco, and cinnamon. While its complexity and rich aroma are appreciated, not all users find the integration perfect, noting some dilution concerns.

"02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Day 6 Notes Light in colour. Nose Wood, roasted, light earthy, orange, light floral, faint workshop, spice, prunes. Palate Oily, balanced, wood, light roasted, light tea, anise, faint caramel, light salt, light chocolate, prunes. Finish Medium long, wood, faint banana, light chocolate, faint tobacco, cinnamon."
"When tasting again after three months, I discovered a fine pencil drawing under the top layer, so the rum now gets three points more from me.Exciting how the taste alone has developed within three months 😉."
"It is a pity that the dilution does not result in a watered-down aroma, but the impression of imperfectly integrated alcohol remains despite the reduction to a higher drinking strength. Apart from that, it clearly belongs to the PM aroma spectrum. Somewhat unbalanced, therefore no higher rating."
