Samaroli Hampden Caksus Jamaica Rum (Recalled) DOK 2009
Highly praised as a powerful, dry, tobacco‑and‑coffee driven sipper with good depth and long finish, especially intriguing for its mislabelled, mystery origin story.
Seasoned enthusiasts who enjoy dry, woody, tobacco‑and‑coffee heavy profiles and like comparing Guyana‑style heavies to Jamaican high‑ester expectations.

05.08.2022 A nice afternoon with other rum geeks and an evening visiting a few bars. Notres Light in colour. Nose Intense, fruity, faint wood, ester, polish, light marzipan, light pineapple. Palate Intense, warm, fruity, ester, light pineapple, light banana, overripe, faint marzipan, light polish., light olive, faint salt. Finish Long and warm, fruity, ester, medium dry, light marzipan, light pineapple,
A DOK is definitely not! I do not even think that is a Jamaican... maybe a blend with Long Pond... if this nose with great fruit would have persisted on the palate, it would have been a really great rum! Unfortunately, however, the palate can not keep up... it is not complex and intense enough... too bad! But good he is nevertheless!
I would not necessarily have recognized as DOK. Much more fruity and sweet, almost floral on the nose. The esters are there, but not overpowering everything. I find more papaya and kiwi here instead of pineapple and banana. Sweetness of orange syrup comes in and even a hint of tobacco. Very unusual. Also unusual on the palate for a DOK: spicy-woody up front, only then do the esters come in. At first, licorice and mint are discernible for me. Slightly bitter and toasty-bacony it is. In the back out even a little grassy.licorice and something grassy also in the finish. Can not actually believe that this is a Hampden and even a DOK should be!?!?!! Would have rather put it with Clarendon. (Although he is not bad, even quite tasty).
I'm curious if at some point it will come out what was really in it. My guess is either a Monymusk or a Hampden OWH. In principle, a good rum that lacks some character.
