How does this rum taste?
The Caksus Jamaica Rum DOK, a limited release by Samaroli, originates from Hampden Distillery in Jamaica. Distilled in 2009, this rum matured for 12 years and showcases a potent profile typical of high-ester rums. At 59% ABV, it delivers pronounced notes of pineapple, esters, banana, and marzipan. Users appreciate its intense aromatic presence with hints of glue and varnish. While praised for its unique taste, some find it surprisingly mild for a DOK, with interesting complexity but noted bitterness in the finish. Overall, it's a distinctive option for enthusiasts of bold, funky rums. Only 301 bottles are available, making it a prized addition for collectors.

Relatively "relaxed" DOK. Solvent, marzipan, pineapple come directly to mind. Then there is some bacon and smoke. Very nice bottling!
Very restrained DOK everything is present ester fruit but somehow too little of everything. Finish light bitter notes and quite short for a Hampden. Not a bad rum but also nothing special.
Oh yes, clearly a DOK. Nose: intense, fine esters with neat fruit vinegar. Overripe, tart pineapple and mealy banana. There is also a slight sweetness of honey with a hint of marzipan. Palate: here, of course, the esters are also very intense and determinative, making it initially quite astringent. However, an interesting bacony note quickly comes through on this one, complemented by sour, ripe pineapple and a nice marzipan sweetness. On the finish, the pineapple lingers with some marzipan and it seems very slightly bitter. Crazy, after 20min I got something fishy, mackerel in Nachgeschmack🤷🏼♂️DOKs are quite simple in my view and don't deliver any distinct variety in my opinion, vary at most in subtleties. I find DOKs and other high esters but simply delicious.
02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Day 5 Notes Light in colour. Nose Medium intense, ester, faint wood, glue, fruit, overripe, faint marzipan, faint herbs. Palate Medium dry, faint wood, varnish, ester, fruity, overripe, light marzipan, banana. Finish Long and warm, ester, fruity, light herbal, fruits, faint citrus, light sour.
