- Good budget-friendly choice
Reserva Ocho Rare Gold Rum is a well-regarded rum from Bacardi, distilled in Puerto Rico using molasses and aged for 8 years. It offers a nose dominated by dried fruits, butterscotch, and an alcoholic hint, with hints of caramel, vanilla, and wood on the palate. Users appreciate its balance between sweetness and complexity, making it a versatile choice for sipping or mixing. Despite its 40% ABV, it has been described as having a sharp and slightly thin character. "This rum is quite alright. I always compare the Bacardis with the Carta Blanca, but of course this one is a stunner :-) Still tastes slightly alcoholic and woody. Quite quick on the finish. One of the better Bacardis."
"A pretty decent rum from Bacardi. I have it primarily for mixing, where woody and warm spices come through well. Not bad neat either, perhaps a little too alcoholic. Interestingly, the smell reminds me of black olives."

"Ziemlich sprittig und arm an Komplexität. Pur ist er für mich kein Genuss. Als Mischgetränk ist er aber passabel."
