How does this rum taste?
RumX members love its classic Versailles wood-and-leather profile and complex nose. Dried fruit and prunes ride over oak with licorice and roasted hints, finishing long, dry and tannic. Some found a touch of bitterness and slightly prickly alcohol versus other 1994 REVs, yet it remains a popular, well‑regarded 50% cask‑strength release—just 165 bottles—with strong buyer confidence from 54 community reviews.

Very high quality, but it does not come (without direct comparison) to the other REVs. It lacks something the beautiful dried fruit, it dominates rather bitter notes.
An REV is always something beautiful. Especially when it's so beautifully old. 27 years, even if it's "only" continental, that's quite something. Nose: intense and full-bodied. Spicy and woody with a strong note of pencil shavings and molasses. Bitter orange with a dash of lemon meets cedar wood with nutmeg, caraway and lovage. Then dark caramel and molasses again. You can't get enough of this. 9,0 Palate: wow, intense, powerful and at the same time full-bodied and round. Woody and spicy, with lots of molasses and treacle. Dried bitter orange with dried fig meet violet licorice. Oh yes, lots of violets! Behind that, slightly bacony tonka bean with nutmeg and caraway and slightly burnt aromas. I like it all very much.9.0
Quite nice release, on a bitter side. On the nose starts off with a coffee, then dried fruit, leather, Guyanese wood. Pallette add a medicinal dimension. Looking forward to trying RA one next. Thank you Dr Django for sharing the sample.
Very delicious, balanced rum. The wood and alcohol is integrated well. It‘s more on the fruity side in comparsion to other REV. Pleasant to drink. I think this one is watered down🤔Nose: Fruity, dried fruits, plum, prunes, alcohol, woody, oak, roated, leather, spicy, pastriesMouth: Alcohol, dry, delicious, full bodied, complex, balanced, sharpness, dried fruits, plum, prunes, leather, oak, licorice, spicy, vanilla, roasted, black tea, burnt sugarFinish: long with tastes of oak(barrel), chocolate, vanilla, black tea
