How does this rum taste?
- complex and balanced notes
- very delicious, balanced rum
- nice and dry on the palate
The Caksus REV by Samaroli is a 1994 Enmore (Versailles) pot still rum known for layered notes of leather, wood, and dried fruits, underpinned by prunes, licorice, and roasted touches. Across RumX, drinkers highlight the “very delicious, balanced rum” (Galli33) with “super nose nach Leder, Schokolade, Honig und Kaffee” (Martin Augustin). Many appreciate the tannic, oaky edge and elegantly integrated alcohol, though it's noted for pronounced bitterness and less fruitiness compared to other '94 REV casks.

"REV-1994-Tasting on 12.10.2024 Here's my ranking (nose and palate impressions each accounted for 50% of the overall rating, in the event of a tie the length of the finish was decisive, as was the case with ranks 1-3, which were incredibly close together): 1ST RX12425 2ND RX121 3. RX11107 4. RX21851 5. RX12203 6. 11402 For me this is the most unspectacular REV 1994 so far. Attention, daily form should not be underestimated!"
"This is a retasting with the RumX guys and I stick to my score. ------ It was nice to try this rum again and I was confirmed in my former score. A nice Versailles with dried fruit, leather and roasted wood. Nice and dry on the palate without it being too much. Like the tannins released on the finish."
"Very high quality, but it does not come (without direct comparison) to the other REVs. It lacks something the beautiful dried fruit, it dominates rather bitter notes."
"While nose and finish deliver in line with the other 94 REVs, there is a lack of intensity and complexity on the palate compared to other releases. Not sure if this was just a bit to much reduction… still good stuff carried by nose and finish but somewhat behind some sister casks."
