RumX Fiji Crosstasting April 2024 Platz 3/8 Erneute Verkostung im Blind Tasting. Die Abfüllung hebt sich durch das Ferrand Finish deutlich vom Rest und etwas des ursprünglichen Profils ab. Jedoch wirkt der Rum sehr komplex. Ursprüngliche Bewertung: Eine sehr schöne Abfüllung von Plantation. Schade, dass diese schwer zu bekommen war. Bitte mehr in dieser Art.

Edit: Thanks Jakob, I had the pleasure of tasting a wide range of the Fiji 2001 bottlings. Although I've had a few in my glass before, the result surprised me again, as my previous favorite ended up in last place. However, it has to be said that I didn't give most of them time to develop due to a time problem. So here is the result of the blind tasting, which differs from the scoring. This is really a Plantation and also from Fiji that really convinces me. Very tasty. Thank you Vincent for the sample. I have to say that of all the Fijis I've had in my glass so far, this one has convinced me the most. My number 1 from this country

Blind I would never have thought of Fiji from the nose, rather Jamaica high Ester. Brutal stuff, full in the face glue, red berries, tangerine and a whole mouthful of old leather bicycle chair 🤣and bicycle tube but especially leather is blatantly dominant. in ne very perverse way unfortunately really horny with an eternal finish and makes surprisingly fun to drink despite the high age and alcohol content.I am once again similar to the recently released Hampden extremely flashed that such a quality again from the house Plantation comes on the market!Definitely one of the best Fiji rums to date!At the 2nd tasting, the typical burnt bicycle tube aroma is almost too much for me! Nevertheless, a blatant device as far as Fiji is concerned! "Tastes like you're burning your bike and then eat ne horny dark chocolate mousse with red fruit jelly, plus bissl salty banana chipsAber your whole face is full of burnt rubber" 🤣🌋🚲🔥

RumX Fidji 2001 Cross Tasting: Noticably different from the rest of the pack. Very high intensity and thickness and density. First association was „Guyan-esque twist on the Fidji 01 profile“. Actually the twist obviously comes from the Ferrand finish. This works really well here and beautifully enhance the base profile. For me 2nd place (blind) Cheers to Jakob!

RumX Community Tasting Fiji 2001. Un nez de caramel brûlé, beurré, aldéhydes un peu piquants, esters. Le début de bouche est aussi un peu piquant, l’alcool n’est pas très bien intégré et le caramel est trop présent. La finale est assez longue sur le caramel amer, le boisé avec de beaux amers. Un rhum que j’ai trouvé déçevant, unilatéral et un peu piquant.

Very atypical Fiji. Complex, spicy, dark. Could also go for Guyana in a blind tasting.

Nose full of esters. On the palate, esters are complemented by fruit and caramel. Powerful. Funky. A little dirty. The finish brings a sensation of burnt leather. Top-notch. Really well done. Edit: powerful. But really good.

Fiji 2001 Community Tasting – großen Dank an Jakob für’s organisieren dieser Blindverkostung. Ein toller Vintage und ein Vergleich nicht ohne Überraschung. Schlusslichter waren für mich die beiden Rum Artesanal, die ich beide nicht ausgetrunken habe. Besonders störend war eine unangenehme Wachholder Fehlnote (stark ausgeprägt beim rx15398 etwas besser aber noch störend beim rx7779). Dann für mich als eigentliches Schlusslicht (also sehr gut / mit den richtigen Markern), aber eben nicht so toll, wie die anderen) der Rum Cask rx479. Überaschenderweise landed auf dem nächsten Platz für mich der Isla del Ron, der ja schon einen kleinen Referenz-Tatus in meinem Herzen hat, seit ich ihn probiert habe. Aber er wurde im Blindtest überholt vom leckeren Whisky Jury (rx13025) und dann vom sensationelle. cave Guildive (rx1717). Der Cave Guildive stellt für mich den Sieger des klassischen Fiji 2002 Profils dar und ist wirklich top. Höher bewertet habe ich dann nur noch den Flag LMDW Antipodes (rx13440) … dieser ist dann deutlich holziger aber auch ultralecker. Der war auch blind klar erkennbar und machte das Photofinish Millimeter hinter dem Plantation rx11133, der wohl auch so herausgestochen ist, weil er so un-Fiji2001 war und eine tolle Kleber-Karamel Guyana Nase hat. Fazit: Typische Fiji Sieger sind der Cave Guildive auf der fruchtig-Honig-feelgood-Seite und der Flag auf der holzigen. der Plantation ist der Wildcard Sieger. Die beiden RA Abfüllung sind die beider, die weit unter dem Niveau der anderen beiden bleiben.

Really good Fiji! Is the tropically matured?

Plantation peut sortir parfois de véritables pépites, comme ce rhum. Le nez est très élaboré et fait preuve de complexité et de générosité. Le fût de cognac a apporté sa petite touche d’élégance avec les fruits secs (raisin, abricot), tandis que le profil lourd des Fidji 2001 se fait ressentir avec prestance : esters, colle, vernis, piment, notes herbacées, thé noir, fruits tropicaux, épices douces et cuir offrent un beau spectacle olfactif. Un nez qui se démarque des autres exemples du Millésime 2001. L’attaque en bouche est intense mais très aromatique. On perçoit beaucoup de fruits (tropicaux, fruits secs, agrumes, fruits rouges) qui donnent du corps au profil. Le fût de cognac fait la différence avec cette finesse. On retrouve également des épices (cannelle, poivre, piment, vanille), du cuir, des notes boisées sur le fumé, des notes empyreumatiques (caoutchouc) et médicinales (phénols). L’alcool est présent mais très bien intégré pour le degré affiché. Un rhum puissant mais très sophistiqué. La finale est longue, tannique, médicinale avec une touche de cognac, de fruits secs et exotiques. Le chêne part sur des notes pimentées et fumées qui collent parfaitement au profil, à la fois vif et gourmand. Un profil très équilibré, savoureux et d’une complexité folle.

Wow! Ester and glue! Really powerful and intense. Blind I would never have come up with a Fiji. Rather in the direction of Clarendon.The 2001 vintages for me in the rating very similar. In taste they have little to do with the young.

Nachtrag: RumX Community Cross-Tasting „Fiji 2001“ (by Jakob): Wow! Das Cognac-Finish verleiht dem sowieso schon gutem Grundstoff eine elegante und süffige Note. In dem Line-up und an dem Abend ist es gür mich der absolute Sieger, noch vor sem Flag. Die Süsse ist an der Grenze und theoretisch wäre es aber möglich, dass er mir auf dauer eher „langweilig“ werden würde als der Flag, der mit mehr Ecken und Kanten daherkommt. Das bekomme ich nur heraus, wenn ich irgendwie an eine ganze Flasche komme…

Fiji aus 2001 ist und bleibt eine Klasse für sich. Für eine absolute Spitzenplatzierung fehlt mir hier einzig etwas die Schwere der Teenoten, ansonsten ist aromatisch schon einiges geboten: Satte Fruchtaromen, florale Noten, etwas Fasseinfluss, Gewürze, Kamille, Tee, medizinische Anklänge...an Komplexität mangelt es definitiv nicht. Auch der Alkohol ist prima eingebunden, ein exzellenter Rum, der präsent und spannend bleibt – hier passiert so viel, das mit jedem neuerlichen Sipper neue Nuancen zum Vorschein kommen. Top.

Brutale Nase, ganz schwer hier was zuzuordnen! Nach 2h im Glas öffnet sich der Rum! Und wie, intensiv, würzig, schwer, nicht so fruchtig wie der RA Fiji 2001 und der IdR Fiji 2001. Aber eindeutig Fiji! Am Gaumen zeigt der nochmal richtig seine Stärke! Ester, Fahrradschlauch, verbrannte Noten, schwere Fassnoten, Salbei und Papaya! Die 65,4% sind gut eingebunden aber das Ding ist wirklich was für Fortgeschrittene! Da kommt richtig was rüber und kein easy Sipper! Sehr beeindruckend - eine langer Abgang, die süßen, metallischen Fijinoten kommen nochmal toll rüber! Sehr sehr guter Fiji aber nichts für schwache Nerven! Nerd Stuff! Crosstasting mit Jakob und einigen Forummitgliedern am 25.4.2024. Platz 1… Von wegen mehr als RX13440 geht nicht. Dieser Fiji hat zurecht gewonnen. Wie beim 13440 passt hier alles zusammen. Er war halt einfach nur etwas leckerer.
