How does this rum taste?
- Unique Caroni character
- Smooth and approachable
- Distinct caramel sweetness
The Trinidad LWR from Compagnie des Indes is a distinctive offering from the Caroni distillery, distilled in 1996 and aged for 25 years. This limited edition rum, cask-strength at 51.5% ABV, is marked by unique Caroni characteristics: rubber, tar, and caramel. Users note a mix of floral and anise nuances, with a softened "workshop" essence. Its profile reveals hints of wood and caramel sweetness, but lacks the intense ruggedness expected from Caroni. Despite its atypical sweetness, it offers a welcoming introduction for new rum enthusiasts.

"Very accessible and drinkable Caroni. Rather on the sweet, round side. Personally, I miss the rough edges. Floral and anise notes dominate."
"This nose, too, has an agricultural side, with yellow fruit and unripe tropical fruit supported by an aroma of sewing-machine oil. It also has vivacity and a spicy, floral side. The palate is not very harmonious, with clashing aromas. You have to look for the mechanical workshop, present but in the background. The finish is quite long, with charming floral aromas (violets) that lift this rum in my esteem. One of the rare Caronis with flowers! Thanks to Steffen for the sample."
"02-09.04.2022 This was crazy week, where some friends and I rented a nice summerhouse on Rømø. The plan was to go nuts for a whole week with different rums without going overboard. The final agreement came to 6 rums a day and then enjoy nice walks or ferry rides during the day. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Fresh, sweet, light wood, faint smoke, spice, light floral, dried fruit. Palate Oily, sweet, wood, light roasted, light floral, spice, warm, light workshop. Finish Medium long, warm, sweet, oily, light floral, light chocolate, faint caramel. Extra note. This is a pretty sweet Caroni and an atypical profile. I'm not sure ir it's elderberry I pick up in the profile."
"For me, too sweet and herbal for a Caroni and too little zest (ABV), relatively sweet. The workshop feeling is more like the workbench of a craft workshop from TV...too tidy. Subtle nose. Everything rather restrained except for the sweetness. More herbs with time."
