“A Mhoba that's still as compelling as ever, with improbable aromatic combinations such as fermented yoghurt with burnt sugar, a hint of salt, sugar cane and floral notes as well as ripe fruit. A rum that leaves no one indifferent. On the palate, the attack is lively and powerful. Sugar cane joins musk, mushroom and compost notes to form a block against spices and young, lightly roasted oak. Fruit is only sporadic on the palate. The alcohol is well integrated into this zany, initially puzzling profile. The finish, of decent length, returns to fermentation, some fruit, spicy wood, but above all with a hint of smoked meat like bacon that adds another dimension. A rum that offers a most original gustatory voyage.”
