How does this rum taste?
Clairin Sajous is a distinctive Haitian rum distilled in 2019 at the Chelo distillery and bottled by Velier. Known for its powerful 56.5% ABV, this rum presents a vibrant nose with vegetal, olive, and subtle lemon notes. On the palate, it is earthy and saline, featuring sugarcane and iodine tones. With an intense aromatic profile, the rum skews towards floral and herbal characteristics, occasionally blending in hints of rubber and smoke. While appreciated for its singularity and potent flavors, some find its flavors too niche or dry, particularly in classic rum cocktails. It scores well for its complexity and integration of alcohol despite its robust ABV, offering a wild fermentation experience emblematic of Clairins.

By rum lovers, for rum lovers
I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 24,000 bottlings, 250,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 46,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.
Starting from the fact that you cannot compare white rums with aged rums for obvious organoleptic reasons, this clairin sajous is really crazy! I currently prefer them to their aged version. Rich in esters, olive, mineral (tastes like the sea) and complex. Magic!!! I could give much more if there was a distillation between white and amber rums.
Good but not my favorite clairin
It's always an exciting time with clairins sajous. Wild fermentation brings such a difference in character that each year can be totally different rums. This is one of the good years, even if it may be a little too dry for some people's tastes. Very tasty and very drinkable, even neat. I've put it on the classic cocktail battery too: Ti-punch: 3/5 Daiquiri: 3/5 Donga punch: 4/5 Rum sour: 5/5 (seriously, one of the best tested to date, on a par with rum sours made with Foursquare or Savanna) Very friendly.
Nose still fruity, palate then rather smoky. You miss nothing if you do not try it. Certainly not bad, but leaves no lasting impression on me.
