Nose If Diamond 1988 was Mozarts Requiem, this fellow is Bachs Mass in B-Minor! Hence deeper, more transcendental and complex. The driest plums from Bavaria. Raisins from Turkey. The finest tobacco from Vuelta Abajo. The sweetest Medjoul dates from Jordan. Burned insense straight from the Vatican. New Santoni leather boots. Damp earth in a jungle. Molasses and Art Deco furniture. But also mouthwatering scents of grilled lamb with mint in a morocan restaurant. Beneath all this wild stew, a subtle hint of lavender and Ylang-Ylang wafts through, lending elegance and finesse to the very oily and heavy notes. The Olympus of a bouquet. Palate Rome is burning ladies and gents! It's a juggernaut that crushes everything that came before it. By that we don't mean the incredibly well-integrated 72.1%, but the sheer force of flavours sizzling on the tongue. Big time molasses sweetness up front, carried by a fine cocoa bitterness of Bajan chocolate. Tonka beans creme, fleshy notes, morocan mint, cuban tobacco, intense Manuka Honey notes and Umami all over the place. The earthy, manioc root-y and leathery finish resembles the length of the Great Wall of China. Rating Can a rum get any better? The bouquet alone is so brillant and complex that you could easily sit down with a glass and a Charles Dickens book for days, just to smell and be satisfied. Palate-wise, it is comparable to the excellent 1975 Cadenhead's, only with slightly deeper and darker nuances. Anyone who wants a taste of spirits heaven should at least get a sample. La messa è finita. 96/100 Points
14.03.2003 Had a week in Salzburg which I think is a wonderful historical city. We went here to have dinner and we were allowed to bring our own bottles for tasting at a small fee. Notes. Very dark in colour. Nose: Intense, wood, smoke, raisin, leather, plum. Palate: Intense, wood, roasted, oily, complex, dried fruit, leather. Finish: Warm, wood, light smoke, dried fruit, chocolate. Extra note. Needs to rest for at meats 30 mins before giving it a go. 4.75 of 5 stars which should amount to 9.5 in today's score.
Brutal, complex, heavy, intense and concentrated.........he takes no prisoners. 72.1%??? Yes, of course 😁😃 100/100..... there's not much more to say
Excellent rum, albeit the weakest from the 1964 round. The nose needs some time to fully develop, but then offers an inspiring complexity with a great tobacco note. The palate is also absolutely world class - barrel notes, leather, dried plum, caramel... Rum Olympus.
