Long Pond Spécial Édition ITP-15 2006
Highly regarded mellow Long Pond with inviting banana-tropical nose, balanced spice and wood. Easy-drinking, well-integrated esters, though some find it a bit thin and not great value.
Fans of gentler Jamaican rums who like ripe banana, tropical fruit and vanilla on a dry, woody backbone, and want an easy-drinking sipper rather than a high-ester powerhouse.

How does this rum taste?
Mellow Long Pond for banana lovers
If you enjoy softer Jamaican profiles like lower-ester Hampden or Worthy Park at reduced strength, this gives you Long Pond character in a smoother, more relaxed package—just know it’s not a funk monster.
Those chasing intense Jamaican funk or cask-strength power, value-focused buyers, and drinkers who dislike hints of bitterness or thinner mouthfeel at this price point.

The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

I got this in the mail from Germany yesterday and I just couldn't wait until the weekend tasting it. Being on a week off from work and having a lot of time to arrange my rum collecrion I can always find a good excuse to sip one :-) I'd say this is a new super rum from Long Pond. Despite the age it has a solid oak as a backbone with fruits and spices on top. The funk is there and it's well balanced and velvety on the palate with a very light mineral touch with some caramel. It's not a cheap rum but I think the price is well matched with the quality.
Super nose of insane gourmandise, marzipan with candied orange peel and chocolate. Just great! The palate is a pity, otherwise it would have been incredible. Rather short finish. In short, excellent rum on the gourmet side and great to try, but I think that in terms of quality and price, there's much more interesting stuff in this style (from plantation or NRJ vale royal, not to mention them 😁).
I have to say it's a great piece. Nice that this one is the end of the day, all the best to the top music teacher Mr. Wippermann. Oh God, what else can I write. I love rum :-) Too bad, tasting is over.
Second tasting: I reduce my rating by 4 points because the rum seems quite alcoholic despite the low alcohol content and because the gap in terms of aroma and intensity to the Velier bottlings is clear. The grilled overripe bananas jump out of the glass at me! There are also other tropical fruits and vanilla. Ripe banana and vanilla again in the mouth, very mild and oily. A peppery and salty note and barrel are added on the finish. Overall very harmonious and intense, top!
