Tasted at SITS’24 The nose is a mixture of deep, herbal and woody aromas that I would definitely describe as ‘Guyanan’. It opens with green banana, sour pineapple juice and vinegar neatly balanced with butterscotch. Then a wild blend of rosemary, savory and marjoram; tea and grass after a hefty downpour. The anticipation is high, and tips into a rather creamy butter, oily expectation on the palate. Wow! In the mouth much different than expected. Starts sweet and exciting with mushy banana and overripe blueberries, then extremely spicy and herbal with allspice, meaty and umami subnotes. Since when does Clarendon hold the TECA mark? Hints of chamomile tea smoke, thyme and a garden full of geraniums. After the entry it evolves into menthol and cask char. The barrel has done some heavy lifting here. With a drop of water: much more creamy, still a lot of black banana; minty and a sudden cameo of dirty garage notes. The finish is lengthy, fresh and still very cool. Camomile tea upfront, chased with spearmint and perhaps a hint of camphor. Definitely the surprise of the day. What a bomb.

Tasted at Spirits in the sky Brussels 2024. The bottle was almost empty when we got our glasses filled, so there was queit some sediment. The colour was almost black with a greenish hue, this was a first for me. The nose reminded me of a young Guyana which isn't the most exciting smell for me. So I was really surprised when the first sip was loaded with mint and menthol. There was also umami notes and different kinds of herbs alongside some petroleum. A very interesting rum, that I enjoyed a lot. Reminded me of a minty ragout sauce in some way. And yes that is a good thing!
