Velier Mount Gay Elliott Erwitt
A complex woody Mount Gay that splits opinion with its leather, coconut, and burnt notes, but frequently stumbles with sharp alcohol. One to try if you enjoy robust, oak-driven spirits.
Woody, coconut-rich Mount Gay with punchy, warming finish.

How does this rum taste?
- long-lasting and warming finish
- the nose is fruity with oak, vanilla, polish
- complex and layered aromatic profile
Mount Gay's Elliott Erwitt 2007, bottled by Velier, gets the RumX crowd talking about its woody, vanilla, and coconut nose, layered with unusual 'glue' and leather tones. The 60% ABV brings intensity rather than seamless integration, with repeated mentions of roasted and burnt wood on the palate and a long, warming finish. While some find the profile 'kantig, aber damit kann ich umgehen' (@Alexander Rasch) and praise its 'fruité et chocolaté, finale longue sur la vanille' (@Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪), others wish the alcohol integration and coherence matched the aromatic promise.

To Mount Gay
"One of the better Mount Gay rums I know - but the profile remains too insignificant for me. Alcohol integration seems to be a constant challenge of the distillates, moreover, the flavor spectrum remains overall quite close together. Smoky notes, oak, spices - here for a change with some tropical fruit freshness. Can not inspire me, unfortunately."
"Not the best Mount Gay in my mind. I've had better and far cheaper ones. Again this will probably be a collectors item like the others. The nose is fruity with oak, vanilla, polish and lovely chocolate. If you leave the empty glass for a few hours these flavours will be even more powerful. The palate is fruity with roasted oak, caramel, leather, vanilla and chocolate. The finish is long with caramel, vanilla, orange and light nuttiness."
"Amazing balance that this rum has throughout its tasting! It also has a fantastic concentration of flavors!I love it!"
"The nose quite appealing (apart from the yet quite pungent alcohol) with vanilla, barrel, coconut, orange peel. On the palate, however, extremely burnt / charred. Since I reach then but rather to the more balanced and more complex RumClub Ed. 23 BMMG."
