Velier Hampden Elliott Erwitt HLCF 2016
Highly praised young Hampden: intense tropical fruits, esters and light smoke with very well integrated 60% ABV and a long, characterful finish. Widely considered a standout modern HLCF release.
Fans of high-ester Jamaican funk who enjoy cask-strength rums with big tropical fruit, light smoke and want a characterful, limited Velier Hampden in their glass or collection.

How does this rum taste?
Powerful, fruity Hampden standout
If you already enjoy Hampden HLCF or other high-ester Jamaicans, this is a more concentrated, smoky-fruity take that drinks above its age—great if you’re comfortable at 60%.
Those sensitive to high ABV, beginners new to Jamaican funk, or value-focused buyers who find young limited releases overpriced for the age.

I'm Oliver – together with Jakob, Robert, and Lukas, we started RumX in 2018 as a small passion project in Stuttgart, back then under the name Rum Tasting Notes.
What began as a digital tasting diary is now the world's most comprehensive platform for rum fans: over 25,000 bottlings, 270,000+ independent reviews, and an active community with 50,000 members. We combine the collective intelligence of our community with an integrated marketplace, allowing you to shop securely and manage your collection directly from the app.
The goal? To offer you, the rum connoisseur, a place where you can choose with confidence—without paperwork, detours, or expert jargon.

Stands out extremely positively in a direct comparison of the two2016 Hampdens, which were released under the aegis of Velier. Clearly more harmonious and with far better integration of the alcohol.
Very tasty! Great nose, in the first moment when you take a sip it has briefly a somehow unpleasant mouthfeel. However, this fades very quickly, then spreads a great flavor palette in the mouth! The rum develops from rather acidic ester notes to a sweetish pear with a slight eucalyptus note.
With a drop or two of water, this rum works wonderfully. It is harmonious but also complex. Rather on the spicy side and less funk. It seems older than the 5 years. The rum still has a very good PLV.
Cross-tasting with RX27 & RX11980 I have to raise my initial rating significantly. In direct comparison, better than the new Hampden HLCF Classic 2017, but still a corner behind the Velier HLCF 2010
