How does this rum taste?
- Heavy, oily Caroni style
- Nice balance of wood and spice
- Unique herbal and medicinal profile
The 6th Employees United HTR Caroni from Velier is all about heavy wood, menthol, tar, and those classic industrial Caroni hints—think rubber, roasted notes, and a touch of licorice. Reviewers pick up on the pine, herb, and spice, with some even noting a “slight more wood in this one and less tar” (Michael Schou) or calling it “chouette profile plus herbacé et médicinal” (Arnaud Faverjon). Fruit and sweetness take a back seat to robust, oily, and sometimes bitter character. Not as ‘dirty’ as some expect, but definitely a ride for Caroni fans who like their spirits complex.

To Caroni
"Unfortunately, not my cup of tea. Much juniper, wood and bitterness."
"Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Has a surprising nuance of fruit esters, but of course the Caroni style remains unmistakable. High level, but no longer a 96 top class."
"... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the time of its greatest glory rum, which was added at a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who took a liking to the rum because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum."
"A special release from Velier, however its probably not their best Caroni. In saying that, its high praise indeed as it's still a full blown tropical aged 25 year old beast from THAT now closed distillery! You can tell its DNA, ashpelt and rubber, and there is a nice sweetness to it as well. Lots of wood which is probaly why I am getting a slight bitter note? Spicy."
