How does this rum taste?
What stands out most for reviewers is the gunpowder proof’s robust, spicy personality balanced with woody and molasses notes, making it a standout among navy rums. Many highlight flavors like chocolate, coffee, and raisin—some even mention a hint of burnt sugar and pepper. It’s a frequent choice for bold sipping and classic cocktails, praised for its value and warming punch. Highly recommended as a versatile favorite, especially if you appreciate strong, characterful spirits.

It’s possible to find the Gunpowder Proof in three different blends. The oldest one consists of rum from Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados. After that it came with a blend of Guyana and Trinidad rum. The latest one just consists of different rum from Guyana. The one I review here is the latest one. I think it’s quite complex with a good balance between sweetness and dryness.
The smell and taste are strikingly different!
Really enjoyable and great value, though I have a slight preference for the Black Tot at this price point for a navy rum.
