"It’s possible to find the Gunpowder Proof in three different blends. The oldest one consists of rum from Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados. After that it came with a blend of Guyana and Trinidad rum. The latest one just consists of different rum from Guyana. The one I review here is the latest one. I think it’s quite complex with a good balance between sweetness and dryness."
"#5027 03.01.2025 Sampling a bit at home after a few days of work. Nose Medium intense, wood, light coffee, light vanilla, light earthy, cherry, faint honey. Palate Medium intense, wood, light roasted, light coffee, fruits, berries, cinnamon, light tobacco, maple, light prune. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, oily, light spicy, light tobacco, light cherry. Needs to rest for a short while to really open up. The empty glass has light chocolate, caramel and raisin."
"With this rum must be mentioned first of all the PLV: for its price it is unbeatable and can not disappoint at first actually. The nose comes very spicy, dark and woody hence; together with its name I feel a bit transferred to the deck of a pirate ship. Together with a very sweet note (molasses?) Very inviting, I think. Also very spicy on the palate, though also alcoholic and less complex and inviting than the nose. For the price, nevertheless, top and also for various recipes a good choice, liquid as solid!"
"EDIT: I finally got into the swing of things during this new tasting! Frankly disconcerting in true English style, and quite nice. Gotta love the character. On the nose: Molasses, brown sugar, caramel, nutmeg, coffee? On the palate: Coffee, coarse spices. Finish: slightly spicy, fairly short."
