The Navigation 2021 - Cuvée No 1 is a limited edition rhum agricole from Martinique's renowned La Favorite distillery, distilled in 2020 and bottled by Les Frères de la Côte. Crafted from pure sugarcane juice using a Creole column, it boasts an intense 67.6% ABV. Users find it rich with vegetal, sugarcane, and flowery aromas, followed by a complex palate featuring peppery, woody, and spicy notes enlivened by honey. While some reviews highlight its fascinating vegetal complexity and cognac-like aspects, others note the challenging alcohol integration. Warm and enveloping nose with notes of vanilla and pastry, roasted hazelnuts and gianduja, a hint of leather, tobacco, wood and some citrus, delicious. Intense and explosive on the palate with roasted hazelnuts/janduja, pepper, mountain herbs/resin/mint, dates, citrus zest, floral and woody with some cognac on the medium-long finish that then leaves a dry/woody/amuffy aftertaste that lingers even after tens of minutes. The abv is excellent and appears to be 15 degrees down. In the empty glass wood, fermented and floral.
Too hard to get into it, the alcohol taking over, too bad we feel a nice potential but I did not manage to appreciate it.
An incredible discovery! Very attracted by the nose, I was afraid of its alcohol content. It is quite balanced even if it is better not to start the tasting here... The story is superb, sailboat without engine, aging during the journey, in the old way.
One of the worse rum of my collection to sip. Tried multiple time but the alcohol integration is really bad. Tried to drink a glass of it beforee a snack, had to stop, tried after the snack, same, tried again after a meal. Could not finish it and I just emptied in the sink instead of forcing myself to finish. Not sure what to do with the bottle except trying to mix it. Really disapointed in this one
