How does this rum taste?
Fans enjoy the soft port, red fruits and warm spice; critics find it thin, tame and too expensive. Consensus: a pleasant, characterful but overhyped sipping rum for relaxed evenings.
If you like standard Don Papa but want less sugar and more real rum character, this is a logical next step—just know you’re paying more for the finish and branding than depth.
Enthusiasts chasing high-ester funk, cask strength power or top value for money; anyone who dislikes port or finds 40% rums too tame.

This one has benefitted from the port cask and can be sipped and probably a great addition to a mixer.
8,2:On the nose, this rum is seductive from the outset, reminding us of Trinidad with a hint of greasy metal. The stone then predominates, with notes of almond and fruit jelly.Aeration expresses the wine as a gourmand, fruity syrup spiced with toasted wood. Dried apricots, quince paste, tropical fruits dominate shape under the nose with its thickness. 8:The palate is round as expected, actually gourmand. The tannic side of the wood brings some serious and well roasted character. Then tannins melt into tropical fruit syrup with some medicinal note.Drieness is felt. Otherwise fruity notes dominate the palate. 7,8:The finish is soft, caramelized, fruity with vanilla and other sweet spices with soft wood... Taste, then judge😉...
Unsweetened Don Papa. Interesting. Way overpriced ofcourse. Not a bad drink. A tad one dimensional. Loads better than most other Don Papas. I do wish they stepped up and made a true unsweetened cask strength rum (for normal money). This is enjoyable though.
