Velier Hampden Pagos Sherry
Tasters praise the interplay of sherry, esters, and tropical fruit, though some find the sherry or alcohol dominant. If funky fruit and experimental cask finishes intrigue, this offers plenty to explore.
Funky, tropical, sherry-forward—distinctly Hampden with a unique twist.

How does this rum taste?
- Cherry is main part of that rum
- Very recognisable Hampden profile
- Hampden intertwined with Oloroso
Pagos Sherry by Hampden and Velier dives headfirst into a collision of classic Jamaican esters, bright tropical fruit (notably pineapple and banana), and unmistakable sherry cask influence. The nose leans heavily into vibrant red fruits and estery funk, with many noting cherry, glue, and even "sherry trifle" (@Kieron Wood). On the palate, the theme continues—esters and fruit up front, sherry and oak just behind, though for some it's "maybe a hint of butterscotch or toffee" (@DruNierer). Sherry impact is firm but opinions split: it's either "a beautiful wine influenced Hampden" (@Dw117) or tilts a bit too "dry and barrel driven." Alcohol integration and balance divide tasters, with the finish running fruity, spicy, and sometimes astringent.

To Hampden
"Aroma. Very harmonious combination of a quite young Hampden and spicy sherry influence. Relaxed to drink and is really fun!"
"Interesting experiment. I particularly like the toasty notes on the finish."
"This is a special one from hampden with this nice touch of sherry cask. Very good solid hampden. The alcohol and sherry cask is integrated very well. Unfortunately, I have to say that the second edition is just a hint better that the first edition 😵💫 btw this is just my opinion"
"Exciting combination - fresh fruit esters meet heavy, syrupy sweetness from the sherry cask. The whole thing moves on a fine line, because the sherry influences are already quite opulent and put a rich stamp on the overall profile. In the end, however, everything remains sufficiently balanced in my eyes and I thoroughly enjoy it. Successful experiment."
